The Oppo R7 is a good-looking phone, but its midrange specs aren't priced to compete with other Chinese manufacturers.

The Oppo R7 packs premium design into a slim, luxurious metal package. It also features Oppo's patented fast charging and you can easily get hold of it in major western markets.

The phone is expensive for its midrange hardware, and its battery life isn't that good.

Oppo's R7 looks great, but the $400 price tag will push potential buyers away. There are cheaper phones out there that are just as good, and better ones don't cost much more.

If you're looking to save some money without sacrificing performance or a premium build, the Oppo R7 might be the middle-ground you've been hunting for.

You'll need to look elsewhere for a phone with fingerprint security and a heart-rate monitor built in. But, if you're after a phone that nails the basics, the R7 is a great option.

Slim phones shouldn't cost a fortune, and Oppo appears keen to give consumers what they want, packing the best of both worlds into one neato sub-$500 package. Is this a great deal?
