One of the first shots in the tablet war has been fired by Archos. Too bad it missed. Hard.

Very portable (1.8 pounds). Eye-catching. Sturdy. Runs just about any Windows app

Downright awful touchscreen. Needs more RAM; performance is dismal. Just 3 hours battery life even with Wi-Fi turned off

You'd be forgiven for asking whether or not the Archos 9 PC tablet is a viable iPad competitor. In truth, it's not, but we had to include it as it is a genuine tablet alternative - and cheap.

Thin, portable design, solid build quality

The CPU is painfully slow which is made worse by there being no way to easily rotate the screen orientation. The touch screen controls can be frustrating

The Archos 9 PC Tablet does look like it could very well be an iPad competitor but it is rather limited in terms of hardware and its user interface is frustrating to use.
