Apple iMac 21.5in (Late 2009)

Apple beefs up its consumer desktop PC with a faster CPU and an energy-efficient display

LED-backlit display, SD card slot, powerful, comparatively inexpensive

No Blu-ray drive, Magic Mouse is troublesome

Apple's latest iMacs are noticeably refined compared to their predecessors, though they aren't significantly different. Both 21.5in models are quite powerful and their 1080p LED-backlit displays are certainly vibrant.

Apple iMac (24in 2009)

Design remains superb, good performance, Apple attention to detail, all-in-one casing saves space

Exorbitant price, no included Apple remote, keyboard has no number pad, rear casing gets hot, only RAM can be upgraded, no adapters included for DVI or VGA connections

The upgrades to the latest Apple iMac are largely underwhelming, but the computer retains its excellently crafted design. It's still an outstanding machine, but the smaller keyboard, lack of included remote and the fact that no display adapters are...

Apple iMac 24in - 2009 Edition

Still the best all-in-one PC money can buy?

pointed out, that remains the case. iPhoto is particularly useful thanks to the addition of a nifty new face recognition system and Facebook integration, but every element of the suite exudes the usual Apple ease-of-use and comfort. So, given most...

Apple iMac fall 2009 (Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06Hz review: Apple iMac fall 2009 (Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06Hz

Editors' note: This review has been corrected to indicate that the system has only a mini DisplayPort output. Mini DisplayPort input capability is restricted to the 27-inch iMacs.

Boasts Apple's always-appealing industrial design, a high-resolution display, and the best performance among all-in-ones in its price range.

Small screen for its price (despite its high resolution); not as home entertainment-friendly as other all-in-ones.

Despite its good looks and a few useful new features, Apple's new iMac is all about business. You can find a larger screen for less, not to mention all kinds of digital entertainment features, but no other all-in-one at this price can boast similar...

Apple 21.5-inch iMac/3.06GHz (ATI graphics)

Impressive image quality from display and any angle ; New SD card slot ; Improved speaker system

Apple Remote not included ; Glare and reflections from screen may frustrate some users ; FireWire 400 peripherals require an adapter

Apple iMac (27-inch review: Apple iMac (27-inch

Apple iMac (27-inch

Largest display among all-in-ones; fast dual-core CPU makes up for lack of quad-core (mostly); finally has an SD card slot; wireless mouse and keyboard; Mini DisplayPort input ripe with possibility.

Most Windows all-in-ones in the price range have Blu-ray; touch-sensitive mouse gestures not as responsive as we'd like; Apple's nickel-and-dime customer service policy.

Apple's new 27-inch iMac will charm plenty of you with its screen size alone. Fortunately, that won't lead you astray. Behind its expansive display, Apple has packed one of the fastest all-in-ones available, and added a few useful extras to sweeten the...

Apple iMac 27-inch, 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, ATI Radeon HD 4670, fall 2009

With this most recent update to the iMac, Apple brings the design of its all-in-ones in line with that of its MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops. The aluminum and polycarbon body of the old iMac has been replaced with aluminum and edge-to-edge glass over...

Apple iMac (Winter 2009) review

One of the things we appreciate the most about Apple's new 20-inch iMac is that it has almost the same core components as the more expensive 24-inch model . Sure the screen is smaller, and the $1,199 default configuration reviewed here has a smaller...

Best-in-class design; competitive performance in its price range, especially for multitasking; capable mainstream gaming performance.

Windows all-in-one vendors offer 20-inch or larger all-in-ones for less; not as well-suited as a dedicated digital entertainment system as some other all-in-ones.

A few other all-in-ones make this 20-inch iMac look expensive on a dollars-per-screen-inch basis, but none are as attractive or as capable juggling multiple programs. With a fast dual-core CPU and a strong array of features, Apple's updated all-in-one...

Apple iMac 24-inch, 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Winter 2009

You may find Apple's new $1,499 iMac attractive, if only because it's one of the most affordable 24-inch all-in-one PCs on the market. Otherwise, Apple's latest update to the iMac line mostly serves to keep it competitive with its Windows-based...

One of, if not the, most affordable 24-inch all-in-one PCs; twice as much hard-drive space as older models; fast Nvidia graphics chip makes the iMac a capable gaming system; best-in-class multitasking performance; iLife digital media suite comes standard.

Fewer interesting hardware features compared with recent Windows-based all-in-ones.

Apple made a number of changes to this $1,499 iMac, but making a 24-inch screen available at this price is the most impressive. The rest of the updates are welcome, and Apple's multitasking capability remains unmatched. Provided you like your...
