High-definition JVC camcorder with 120GB hard drive and MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) recording.
Compact, 120GB hard drive
Lacks a viewfinder, frame-rate options are limited, fails to wow
The JVC Everio GZ-HD40 isn't a bad HD camcorder — in fact, it's pretty good. That being said, there are other camcorders on the market that offer better images and usability at a lower price.

The GZ-HD40's spec and image quality are spot on, but price could be an issue.

JVC Everio GZ-HD40
Excellent video quality; two HD format options; full manual controls.
No optical image stabilization; confusing menu system; some design quirks.
JVC's CMOS-based Everio GZ-HD40 offers high-definition recording flexibility with very good results, but a few shortcomings keep us from giving it a full recommendation.
Expertrecension från (pcworld.com)
The big hard drive of JVC's GZ-HD40 is offset by the camcorder's big price--and its simply adequate performance.
120GB hard drive holds a lot of HD video ; Records to two video formats
Best-looking video format hard to work with ; Poor image stabilization
The JVC GZ-HD40 isn't a bad HD camcorder--in fact, it's pretty good. People seeking a tapeless camcorder that they can use with a modest PC today and a more powerful computer in the future may find the GZ-HD40's multiple recording formats compelling....

There's a lot to like about the JVC Everio GZ-HD40 high-definition camcorder. A compact model with a beefy 120GB hard drive, it records to two formats: the compact and increasingly common AVCHD and the higher-quality MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS)....

JVC's upgrade to a bigger CMOS sensor and the switch to AVCHD havereaped big dividends for the HD40 and its massive (and heavy) 120GBhard drive. Video quality

JVC's CMOS-based Everio GZ-HD40 finally offers AVCHD recording, but a few shortcomings keep us from giving it a full recommendation.

Conclusion For a high-def camcorder priced less than US$1,000, the JVC Everio GZ-HD40 has a lot to offer — especially if you're into manual settings and are not easily intimidated by digging through a convoluted menu system. However, the lack of...

The JVC GZ-HD40 ($1299 MSRP) is a more than a simple update in the Everio line of hard disk drive (HDD) camcorders. You wouldn't know it from a casual glance, but a lot of changes have occurred under the hood. For the first time, JVC has switched from...
