As the saying goes, “the best camera you have is the one you have on you”. Anyone who owns a DSLR and a mountain of lenses and accessories can attest to how much of a pain carrying the caboodle around can be. That's why CSC and mirrorless cameras have...

The Kodak Ektra is a unique smartphone that doubles as a solid point-and-shoot camera at an affordable price, but don't expect it to match up to more traditional devices in either regard.

Even after a price drop and a software upgrade, this still isn't the camera phone for most.
Er... you can expand its storage with microSD cards?
Disappointing camera. Made from cheap-feeling materials. Poor battery life and sluggish performance. Plus it's way too expensive.
The Ektra tries to be a great camera and a high-end phone at once, but it's not great at being either.

The camera-smartphone? The Kodak Ektra carries a big name and accordingly wants to pocket the prize for the best smartphone camera. Read on to find out if it does, and whether this smartphone could be something for you.
chic retro case ; stable chassis ; USB-OTG & USB 3.0 ; solid photo apps ; good voice quality ; good front camera ; stylish accessories ; workable performance values
case heats up quite significantly ; bulky plastic chassis ; short battery life ; high energy consumption ; dim, low-contrast display ; relatively expensive ; poorly equipped main camera... ; ... with meager picture quality ; no NFC ; no fingerprint sensor
The Kodak Ektra occupies a niche: It is a smartphone for people who want to stand out with their device and appreciate the retro camera design. Accessories in the form of leather camera cases are a perfect fit for that. But can the smartphone do more...

Editors' note: Since our initial review, Kodak has made significant software updates and dropped the price to $400 in the US and £370 in the UK (the US price converts to AU$540). We have edited our original review to reflect the price and slight...

A camera that makes calls, or a phone with a superior snapper? Kodak's Ektra isn't really either
Cute retro photo app ; Camera grip is pretty useful for regular snappers ; Reasonable mid-range spec
Camera quality just isn’t better than a flagship alternative ; Doesn’t feel as premium as it should ; Expensive for the spec
A new neat software throwbacks aren’t enough to impress on this otherwise fairly average phone. It’s not just as good a camera as other flagship handsets

Kodak has taken an iconic camera from 1941 and turned it into a phone built for photogaphers. Check out the Kodak Ektra smartphone in our hands-on review.
It's too early to give a verdict on the Kodak Ektra but it has a lot of potential, especially at a cheaper price point compared to flagship phones. We certainly like the unique design so we're looking forward to testing it out properly.

The Kodak Ektra is the secondever smartphone from the famous US company. Designed to be a smartphone for keen photographers, the Kodak Ektra has a 21-megapixel 1/2.4in sensor rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 lens, 6-axis optical image stabilisation and...
The Kodak Ektra certainly looks fantastic in all those glossy online marketing shots, but in reality it doesn't quite live up to its promise, either as a camera or a smartphone.

Kodak Ektra is in fact more a camera than a smartphone, at least it looks so. But is this an idea whose time has come? Well, I used the Kodak Ektra for well over a week and here's our full review.

We review the new Kodak Ektra Smartphone - a 21mp camera phone, with 4K video, designed for photographers with manual controls and numerous shooting modes.
The Kodak Ektra Smartphone is one of the only current smartphones to offer the retro look and style of a compact camera. There's also a large two-stage shutter release button, adding the feel of using a real camera. The smartphone doesn't come across...
